Founded by local people in 2007, the Friends of Thornton Heath Rec. aims to make our park a safe, positive and vibrant environment for local residents and visitors, which reflects the diversity and heritage of our area. Working in partnership with the residents, the council, police, local businesses and voluntary bodies, the Friends of Thornton Heath Rec. consults on, campaigns for, and promotes the Rec. for the benefit of the people of Thornton Heath and our visitors. We are a member organisation, which is open to all, and also provide a public forum for information, opinion and debate on all matters relating to the Rec. Regular public meetings are scheduled and a management committee, which meets monthly, oversees our activities. In the last year we have hosted a number of events including: - A family Fun Day
- A bulb planting day involving local schools
- A sponsored toddle event
We have also worked closely with the council to: - Oversee the refurbishment of the children's play area
- Secure funding for enhanced play provision
- Increase ranger presence in the Rec
